Casio Standard Watch (Men's) LWA300HB-1EV

Casio Standard Watch (Men's) LWA300HB-1EV

$42.95

The LWA300HB-1EV toes the line between professional and comfortable, with a mix between a resin band and a glossy matte stainless steel case, backed by the stellar reliability of Casio internals and movement. However, unlike dressier peers from Seiko or more rugged offerings from Timex, the Casio LWA300HB-1EV does not have a clear target audience…and it isn’t broadly appealing enough to be an everyman’s watch. -T42

  • Distinctions - Casio’s expertise with custom movement shines within the LWA300HB-1EV, with remarkable to-the-second accuracy even after an extended trial period, despite Casio’s own more pessimistic estimate of ±20 seconds per month. Water resistant up to 100 meters, with pressures up to 10 bar also covered, this watch won’t be stopped by any everyday water exposure.

Criticisms - Resin glass is less than resilient to cracks and scratches incurred during regular use. Accessories like cufflinks or bracelets that overlap will cause visible abrasion.

  • Distinctions - A hallmark of Casio’s products, a tight and focused build means a solid feel on wrist. A variety of band settings allows for a tight fit without strangling the wrist to stay in place. Ultra-precise movement designed specific to every model in the Standard line also contributes to peace of mind, with time accurate regardless of circumstance.

Criticisms - While the stainless steel case is more resistant to damage, the resin band is not. Similarly, and more noticeably, the resin glass is not at all resilient, incurring damage much easier than the surrounding case. With the Casio Standard Watch (Men's) LWA300HB-1EV, the middle-of-the-road price point doesn’t allow for expenditures into stronger materials.

  • Distinctions - A black stainless steel case with silver accents is striking and a great combination in direct lighting, especially in conjunction with the complementing and contrasting blue tip of the second hand. The Casio LWA300HB-1EV also maintains a slim profile, remaining inconspicuously flush with the wrist.

Criticisms - Lack of distinct design motifs or bespoke details makes this watch relatively nondescript, and while not garish, also not a head-turner by any means. Black resin looks cheaper than plain matte black used on other Casio models, while also simultaneously attracting more attention with its reflective finish.

  • Distinctions - Lack of plastic pieces in the assembly means greater longevity for the mechanism and its housing.

Criticisms - Reliance on batteries increases the impact of maintenance significantly, with Casio and many industry peers pivoting towards solar, it’s hard to rationalize the continued implementation of batteries.

  • Distinctions - The Casio Standard Watch (Men's) LWA300HB-1EV is a remarkable compromise between quality and cost, with watches around a comparable price point making distinct sacrifices in engineering and longevity. While its recommended retail price puts it amongst peers who could be referred to as ‘fashion watches,’ Casio succeeds at making a watch around the median price with luxury quality and engineering.

Criticisms - While commensurate watches within the space sacrifice quality, the Casio LWA300HB-1EV sacrifices broad aesthetic appeal with a rigid style and dated palette that will likely feel out of place for professionals.
