Distinctions - Like all members of the new 8-stud width Speed Champions sets, the LEGO Toyota GR Supra 76901 is even more detailed than previous generations while also maintaining the minifigure scale. Interior elements and the addition of a wrench accessory also add to the depth of playability.

Criticisms - Low clearance and pronounced splitter causes some issues with rolling on less than perfectly flat surfaces. Certain other similarly-priced Technic sets offer comparable size and larger chassis, suspension along with power elements.

Distinctions - As with most LEGO sets, the LEGO Speed Champions Toyota GR Supra 76901 incorporates strong pieces with tight tolerances and solid color palettes. Figure prints are generally very solid and have a strong luster that does not fade with time.

Criticisms - Much of the curvy body shape characteristic of the Supra does not offer enough details best visualized through stickers, limiting expression of body lines to the blocky LEGO medium. When comparing the LEGO Speed Champions Toyota GR Supra 76901 to the Speed Champions 812 Competizione, the body shape is remarkably similar, however, the 812 feels much more intentional in the build around the door, A-pillar and rear.

Distinctions - Complements of the stickers included on the hood, the LEGO Speed Champions Toyota GR Supra 76901 is a fitting replica of the on-road car. The duck-tail spoiler and black/red/yellow color scheme are all striking parts of a solid model.

Criticisms - While the original design might be controversial for a number of reasons, the LEGO version does not capture many of the motifs that make the original design controversial. Particularly the intakes, curves of the body lines, and the swept-back nature of the rear; all elements that are not particularly well-represented. While some concessions are always made in scale models, this is a distinct departure from the accuracy of other Speed Champions sets.

Distinctions - LEGO is, as ever, strong in reuse and recyclability. This particular set does not overdo bespoke or limited use special pieces, opting instead for stickers to illustrate design details, ensuring that every piece is easily usable with the rest of LEGO’s system. Fully plastic designs are easily recyclable if desired, though freedom of LEGO assembly allows for continued use in as many contexts as can be conceptualized.

Criticisms - As always, the criticism to be had with LEGO products is their plastic base, as well as traditionally recyclable, but still disposable paper instructions and ink-heavy retail packaging. Reuse, quality and longevity of LEGO pieces offsets the plastic cost, but considering the over-sized nature of the box versus the contents, reductions are possible. Stickers and new molds for minifigures do come with an associated environmental cost.

Distinctions - Hard to find a larger catalogue of products that are still legacy compatible with new sets like this one. The LEGO Speed Champions Toyota GR Supra 76901 is easily the best and most playable model existing on the market for a non-prohibitive price.

Criticisms - LEGO’s major complaint with aficionados is the gradual price inflation and decrease of set sizes. This particular set manifests those reductions less than others, but unfortunately lacks the perfect capture of the shape of the car necessary to deem it perfect.
